| Sustainability Initiatives |
Hill & Kehne’s Sustainability Initiatives include the following:
- We were the first law firm in the country to meet each of the four criteria in the ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge.
- Through the Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots Program, we sponsor an ongoing collaboration between students in Shanghai, China and Montgomery County, Maryland, and we have funded the planting of thousands of trees in China.
Hill & Kehne attracts and works with clients who pursue environmentally constructive projects. For example:
- We assist the United States Air Force in its use of environmental insurance and liability-transfer contracting to clean up discontinued Air Force bases and enable their re-use by local communities.
- We are counsel to the Revitalizing Auto Communities Environmental Response (“RACER”) Trust, created by the federal government, 14 states and St. Regis Mohawk Indian Tribe to clean up and prepare for redevelopment the 89 plants and other industrial properties left behind in the GM bankruptcy.
- We assist Cherokee Investment Partners, the world’s largest developer of contaminated properties, and a builder of LEED-certified neighborhood developments.
- We assist The Pacific Forest Trust, an organization dedicated to “conserving America’s working forests for all their public benefits — wood, water, wildlife and a well-balanced climate.” PFT has several offset project registered on the California Climate Action Registry (CCAR) and we are working with PFT to establish innovative insurance products to protect forest carbon offsets for the required 100 years.
We serve, on a pro bono basis, as outside counsel to the internationally-recognized NGO, Environmental Defense Fund, in a major lawsuit to preserve tens of thousands of acres of valuable wetlands |
