In addition to our retail insurance brokerage, Hill & Kehne, LLC (H&K) provides wholesale services to brokers who do not specialize in this unique area. In fact, working with Betterley Risk Consultants, H&K is lead author of the Betterley Report's 2009 Survey of Environmental Insurers and their Products, a comprehensive review and analysis of the 10 environmental insurers. This publication is intended specifically for small- and medium-sized brokers across the United States, many of whom do not have their own, in-house, environmental expertise and subscribe to the Betterley Report for access to such expertise.
Surplus Lines Policies.
Unlike 98% of other policies, Environmental Insurance (EI) is a form of surplus lines coverage that is not subject to regulatory review either as to its price or its policy language, and is not backed by State Guaranty Funds. Further, most EI is provided by only a small handful of non-admitted, surplus lines insurers, each with its own likes and dislikes. H&K can help you navigate this terrain efficiently.
Environmental Insurance (EI) is a Varied Tool.
EI can be a critical tool for companies, governments, individuals, and other entities to manage environmental risks. It works in a variety of settings. Whatever the risks your client wants to protect against, H&K has done it before and can help you help your clients obtain the proper EI protections. Some common risks that we insure against include:
- unknown pollutants at a current or former manufacturing facility (or even an office building);
- remediating a Brownfield or even a Superfund site;
- leaks from a portfolio of underground storage tanks; orpollution releases or exacerbations from Contractor activities.
H&K is also a Law Firm.
H&K is not just an insurance brokerage but also a law firm, with attorneys who have decades of experience in environmental law and contracting. This unique combination of skills enables us not only to negotiate specific policy language but also, where separately requested by clients, dove-tail that language with related contracts for the sale, lease, or cleanup of real estate. |
